I did the same with the 'water temperature' gauge and the needle moved to the full hot position. I spun the speedometer by hand and the needle moves. Please review the photographs and ask questions before buying.

The item is for a Ford truck custom cab. In lieu of using a 12 volt constant voltage unit, I took a 6 volt flash light battery and connected it to the 'fuel' gauge and the needle moved to the full position.
